Horse Fly Poem

Who knows what brought up the memory

Who knows where these thoughts come from

It was so long ago; BC you know

Before children as my parents used to say

We were so in love that even strangers could see it

The way he looked at me and I at him

I was so young and so naïve I was sure even insects could tell

Love just rolled around the two of us all day, all night

Lying in the tipi every night, listening to the elk across the highway

Tipi flap facing East, of course and rising to the sun

Coming across the top of Sleeping Indian Mountain crest

Snake River racing with the melting snows,

Our hearts melding together, so in love

So, when the horse fly got underneath the flap

I just lay real still as I was one with the universe

Until the horse fly bit me and I screamed loud enough

To wake the Sleeping Indian!

Oh no, wait, that’s just hubby, coming to my rescue with a swat and a kiss.

I like that it's a heart-felt poem, but starts out light with the term BC.

Keep them coming. I'll be back around!

I got bit by a horse fly once it was not funny my ankle swelled right up and it was oh so painful and not at all poetic. You at least have come away with something creative from your experience lol.
